For three days before the Neustadt Yacht Festival, sailing yachts were tested, closely inspected and evaluated in great detail.
For the second time, the German sailing magazine SEGELN organized the SEGELN Top Yacht Award for the best sailing yacht. Thirteen yachts had been nominated and invited to participate in the competition.
Using a confidential questionnaire and a dedicated scoring system, the judges first evaluated the submitted documentation. Afterwards, every yacht was thoroughly inspected in the harbor — on deck, but especially below deck. Not only the layout, concepts and technical solutions were examined, but above all the overall quality of the yacht. The final stage consisted of sea trials.
Five testers were on board our yacht, including experienced sailors, two yacht surveyors and an IMCI inspector. Every corner was inspected — from the bilge to the rigging.
The jury deliberately sailed the yacht unreefed in winds of around 20 knots to evaluate how the yacht could be handled under these conditions. The testers were impressed: the Saare 38.2 proved not only fast, but above all safe and easy to control.
The enthusiasm increased even more once the testers went below deck. Even under these demanding conditions, there was not a single noticeable noise on board. No creaking, no cracking. The judges said they had never experienced anything like it before.
The awards ceremony took place during a formal event on the evening before the boat show.
The nominated and tested yachts were:
Dufour 40, Fountaine Pajot 41, Tide 34, Sirius 40 DS, Najad 451 AC, Nordkaper 28C, Hallberg-Rassy 370, Linjett 36, Hanse 410, Bavaria Voyager 45, Flaar 24 and the Saare 38.2.
With the highest overall score — tied with the Linjett 36 — the Saare 38.2 achieved first place.
We are extremely pleased with this result and very proud of this recognition.
Selected scores:
Saare 38.2 & Linjett 36: 13.7 points
Sirius 40 DS: 12.45 points
